Students struggling with Chemistry commonly complain that there is "too much information to memorise".

There is indeed a substantial amount of information within the Chemistry syllabus, it can be managed with the right study techniques.

I believe many students struggle because

  • they are unable to make connections among the main topics, and end up with  a whole chunk of messy, disjointed information,

  • they are unable to generalise information and thus overwhelm themselves by  trying to remember a lot of details instead of understanding patterns.

My main approaches to teaching are

  • to help the students create linkages among the main chapters,

  • to enable them to see the patterns within each big concept.
